The 100m Breaststroke demands precise technique and explosive power. Swimmers must follow strict breaststroke rules — simultaneous arm pulls, simultaneous kicks, and legal turns — over 2 lengths of the pool. The underwater pullout after the start and turns is a critical element where fractions of a second can be won or lost.
Format
Heats determine the 8 finalists. In the gold medal race, swimmers contest 100 metres breaststroke, with legal technique a strict requirement. Disqualifications for technical violations are possible even in the final.
