About This Event
The 10m Air Rifle event requires athletes to shoot at a 10-ring target from a standing position at 10 metres. Competitors must achieve extraordinary levels of concentration, breath control, and trigger discipline to score consistently in the 10-ring (10.9mm diameter at this distance). The Finals use an elimination format where the lowest-scoring shooter after each shot is eliminated.
Format
60 shots in qualification determine the 8 finalists. In the final, all 8 shoot simultaneously in an elimination format — after every few shots the lowest scorer is eliminated. The last athlete remaining wins gold. Electronic targets provide instant scores for spectators to follow.
Nations to Watch
China and South Korea have historically dominated air rifle shooting at the Asian Games, regularly sweeping multiple medals. Japan and India are also strong competitors. Emerging shooting nations including Kazakhstan and Singapore challenge for finals positions.
