About This Event
10m Platform is the pinnacle of diving, requiring athletes to perform dives from a fixed 10-metre platform. There is no springboard — all height and rotation must be generated from a stationary start. Elite divers perform dives with degree of difficulty over 4.0, combining multiple somersaults with twists before a near-vertical water entry. The splash must be minimised for maximum scores.
Format
Preliminary and semifinal rounds determine the 12 finalists. In the final, each diver performs 6 dives of their choice (one required). Scores from 7 judges (highest and lowest discarded) multiplied by degree of difficulty give the total for each dive. Combined scores from all 6 dives determine the gold medal.
Nations to Watch
China has been utterly dominant in platform diving at the Asian Games, rarely losing gold. South Korea and North Korea challenge for silver and bronze. Malaysia, India, and Malaysia have produced competitive platform divers who reach finals positions.
