About This Event
Known as the ‘metric mile’, the 1500m Freestyle is the flagship long-distance swimming event. Swimmers complete 30 lengths of the 50-metre pool, requiring supreme endurance and tactical pacing. This event tests not just physical fitness but mental fortitude.
Format
Single final race. Swimmers are seeded based on qualifying times. The race requires careful energy management across all 30 lengths, with most competitors making their decisive moves in the final 300-400 metres.
Nations to Watch
China has dominated this event at recent Asian Games. Japan, South Korea, and Kazakhstan regularly produce medal contenders. Swimmers from India and Uzbekistan have also shown improvement in long-distance events in recent years.
