About This Event
The 50m Rifle 3 Positions event requires athletes to shoot from kneeling, prone, and standing positions at 50 metres — the longest distance in Olympic-style target shooting. Each position demands different techniques and body stability. The event traces its origins to military marksmanship and is one of the oldest shooting disciplines. Prone offers the most stability; standing is the most challenging.
Format
45 shots per position (135 total) in qualification determine the 8 finalists. The elimination final begins from the standing position. After each shot, the lowest scorer is eliminated until one athlete wins gold. The final creates immense pressure as athletes must maintain standing position accuracy with elimination stakes.
