About This Event
The C1 1000m is a flagship event in canoe sprint. The paddler kneels in an open canoe using a single-bladed paddle, alternating sides to maintain a straight course over 1000 metres. The kneeling posture and single blade make this significantly more demanding than kayak disciplines, requiring exceptional core stability and powerful, balanced strokes.
Format
Heats and semifinals select the finalists. In the gold medal race, paddlers race 1000 metres in separate lanes in their solo canoes. The first to cross the finish line wins. Pacing is crucial — most elite paddlers aim for negative splits, finishing faster than they started.
