About This Event
The Floor Exercise is a 70-second routine performed on a 12×12 metre sprung floor. Men’s floor combines powerful tumbling passes — double and triple twisting somersaults — with strength elements, balance movements, and dance steps. The event scores both the difficulty of skills performed (D-score) and the quality of execution (E-score). Boundary violations, out-of-bounds steps, and falls are penalised.
Format
The 8 highest-scoring gymnasts from qualification on this apparatus (maximum 2 per country) advance to the apparatus final. All 8 perform their full floor routine. The combined D-score and E-score minus penalties determines the winner.
Nations to Watch
Japan and China produce outstanding men’s floor gymnasts known for high difficulty and clean execution. South Korea also fields strong floor competitors. The event rewards gymnasts who can combine extreme power in their tumbling with artistic expression in their choreography.
