About This Event
The Laser (ILCA 7) is the world’s most popular single-handed dinghy class, known for its simplicity and physical demands. Sailors race on the open sea, navigating wind shifts and currents while hiking aggressively to keep the boat flat at speed. Endurance, tactical reading of the wind, and boat-handling precision all combine in this demanding singlehanded class.
Format
10 fleet races over the regatta determine overall standings. Points from each race accumulate with the worst result discarded. A medal race involving the top 10 sailors then determines final standings with double points. The sailor with the lowest accumulated score wins gold.
Nations to Watch
South Korea and Japan have been the strongest Laser sailing nations at the Asian Games. China also fields competitive sailors. Singapore, Hong Kong, and Chinese Taipei have also produced strong Laser sailors who challenge the top Asian nations at the Games.
