About This Event
Shot put rewards explosive power and technical rotational technique. China and Kazakhstan produce the strongest Asian shot putters, with throws regularly exceeding 19 metres at the Asian Games elite level.
Format
Qualification determines finalists. Six throws in the final. Longest valid throw wins. The circle has a diameter of 2.135m and athletes must exit from the rear.
Nations to Watch
China and Kazakhstan are the two dominant shot put nations in Asia. Japan, South Korea, and the Gulf states round out the field.
