About This Event
The Vault event requires gymnasts to sprint down a 25-metre runway, hit a springboard, and launch over a 135cm-high vaulting table, rotating in the air before landing. In the final, athletes perform two different vaults with the average score counting. The most valuable vaults combine complex twisting and somersaulting combinations in the flight phase after the table.
Format
The 8 top qualifiers on vault (maximum 2 per country) advance to the final. Each performs two different vaults from the FIG Code of Points, and the average of the two scores determines the final ranking. Both vaults must differ significantly in their second flight elements.
Nations to Watch
North Korea has produced exceptional vault specialists at the Asian Games. China, Japan, and South Korea all field strong vaulters. The event rewards athletes with extraordinary explosive power and spatial awareness who can execute complex aerial elements after a powerful take-off from the table.
