About This Event
Women’s 10m Platform diving requires athletes to generate all their rotation and height from a fixed 10-metre platform. The combination of precise inward dives, back somersaults with twists, and armstand dives demands extraordinary body awareness and courage. World-class women’s platform divers compete with degrees of difficulty exceeding 3.8 in major events.
Format
Preliminary and semifinal rounds select 12 finalists. Each performs 5 optional dives, scored by 7 judges with highest/lowest discarded, then multiplied by degree of difficulty. The woman with the highest total score from all 5 dives wins gold.
Nations to Watch
China has dominated women’s 10m platform diving globally and at the Asian Games, with multiple Olympic and World champions. South Korea and North Korea challenge for other medals. Malaysia and Chinese Taipei have developed strong women’s diving programmes.
