About This Event
Women’s Floor Exercise is performed to music on the same 12×12 metre spring floor as the men’s event, but with different requirements. The 70-90 second routine combines powerful tumbling passes — double-twisting somersaults, double pikes — with dance choreography, leaps, turns, and expressive movement. The routine must use the entire floor area and connect athletic power with artistic expression.
Format
The 8 top qualifiers on floor (maximum 2 per country) contest the apparatus final. Each performs a full routine scored on difficulty and execution, with choreography and artistic impression influencing the execution score. The gymnast with the highest combined score wins gold.
Nations to Watch
China produces outstanding women’s floor gymnasts combining extreme difficulty with elegant performance. South Korea and Japan field competitive floor specialists. Chinese Taipei and North Korea have also produced highly creative and technically strong floor exercise gymnasts at the Asian Games.
