About This Event
Women’s Kayak Slalom (K1) requires athletes to navigate a technical whitewater gate course in a closed-cockpit kayak using a double-bladed paddle. The course features 18-25 gates demanding upstream and downstream navigation at speed. A clean, tactical run with no gate penalties is usually necessary to win at the highest level.
Format
Two runs in the heats determine qualifiers for the final. Each finalist completes one final run. The lowest total time including any gate penalties (50 seconds per missed gate, 2 seconds per gate touch) wins gold. Course-reading ability is as important as raw paddling power.
Nations to Watch
