About This Event
Women’s Trap shooting uses the same format as the men’s event — shooting airborne clay targets launched from underground bunkers at high speed and unpredictable angles. Athletes use a shotgun and must demonstrate precise timing and consistent technique to break targets that travel at 70+ km/h across varying flight paths. The women’s field has become increasingly competitive globally and at the Asian level.
Format
125 qualification targets select the 6 finalists for the elimination final. The final involves 50 additional targets with the lowest-scoring athlete eliminated after specific intervals. A potential shoot-off resolves any tie for medal positions.
Nations to Watch
Kuwait and Qatar have produced strong women’s trap shooters competing under the Asian Olympic Council. Japan, China, and South Korea also field competitive women who challenge for finals positions. India’s women’s shooting programme is developing strongly in shotgun disciplines.
