About This Event
The Uneven Bars apparatus features two bars at different heights — 240cm (high bar) and 160cm (low bar). Gymnasts swing between the bars performing release-and-regrasp moves, pirouettes, and transitions in rapid succession. The combination of high-bar releases, close-clearance bar transitions, and complex pirouette sequences defines elite uneven bars gymnastics. A stuck dismount from the high bar is the perfect finish.
Format
The 8 top qualifiers on uneven bars (maximum 2 per country) contest the final. Each performs a routine judged on difficulty and execution. The highest combined D-score and E-score minus deductions wins gold. Judges assess technique, body line, amplitude, and landing quality.
Nations to Watch
China has produced exceptional uneven bars specialists with some of the world’s highest difficulty scores. Japan also fields technically refined bars gymnasts. South Korea and North Korea have also contributed top uneven bars competitors at the Asian Games level.
