About This Event
Women’s Vault uses the same table as the men’s event at a height of 125cm. Gymnasts sprint down the runway, hit the springboard, and push off the table to perform complex aerial rotations before landing. The most valued vaults feature multiple twists combined with somersaults. In the final, each gymnast performs two different vaults with the average score counting toward their final ranking.
Format
The 8 top qualifiers on vault (maximum 2 per country) advance to the apparatus final. Two different vaults are performed and averaged for the final score. The gymnast with the highest average score wins gold. Falls on either vault heavily impact the average and medal prospects.
Nations to Watch
North Korea has produced legendary vault specialists at Asian Games. China fields powerful vaulters who consistently score among the highest. South Korea, Japan, and Chinese Taipei also challenge for vault medals. Gymnasts from Southeast Asian nations including the Philippines and Indonesia have also made their mark in vault competition.
