Competition Format

Men’s field hockey is split into two Pools, with each country playing a round robin. Qualification for the knockout stage is based on the final standings of the pools.

  • The top two from each Pool go on to the Semis.
  • The top two from each Pool go on to the Semis. 3rd & 4th place teams face off in “crossover” bracket play for the 5th-8th place race.
  • The 5th and 6th teams play classification matches for the other positions.
  • There must be a winner in all knockout round contests. If the levels at full time, etc. are decided based on the FIH tournament rules, including penalty shoot-out if necessary.
