Asian Games 2026 Taekwondo First Final Event – October 1

The Asian Games Taekwondo Competition will officially start on Thursday, 1st October 2026, and will be kicked off with the junior Poomsae discipline. Across the Asia region will compete on the opening day of the Taekwondo, competing for the first of two Olympic gold medals, marking the biggest and most eagerly awaited Games event.

October 1 Taekwondo Schedule
The first day of Taekwondo competitions will consist of the Senior Poomsae discipline which is an official series of forms that Taekwondo has that all people had to perform before a panel of judges. The competition begins at 09:00 JST with preliminary performances, elimination rounds and championship rounds.
The day ends with a competition to secure first two gold medals from the Men’s Individual Senior Poomsae Final and the Women’s Individual Senior Poomsae Final, where Asia’s top ranked athletes compete.

What is Senior Poomsae?
The advanced forms of Taekwondo are called SENIOR POOMSAE and are when the competitiors perform a series of automatically arranged blocks, strikes, kicks, stances and movements in a fixed sequence. Rather than facing an opponent, athletes are judged for technical accuracy, power, balance, rhythm, flexibility, presentation & overall assessment.
Competition Format
The Senior Poomsae competition is held in the elimination mode, starting with the preliminary Poomsae. Athletes perform pre-arranged poom sae on a competition mat measuring 10m x 10m which is equipped with elastic material on which the athlete is able to perform on, this is judged by the judges for technique and presentation.
Host Country
2026 Asian Games (Aichi – Nagoya) is coming this year to Japan where 2,000 athletes from all over Asia will arrive.

The Taekwondo tournament will take place at Toyohashi Gymnasium in Toyohashi, Japan for all events in the Games.
