How Does Weightlifting Work?
The events in weightlifting tournaments are won by completing the events in two different directions of lifting.
Snatch
For snatch, the lifter needs to move the barbell from the ground to overhead in one movement. The discipline demands balance, speed and accuracy.
Clean and Jerk
For the clean and jerk, the athlete lifts the bar to shoulder height and then overcomes it by lifting it up and high. The goal of this lift is strength, power, and control.
All competitors will have 3 tackles in each discipline. Athletes are then awarded a total score based on the highest of either the snatch or the clean and jerk. The winner gets the gold medal for the competitor who gets the highest combined total of wins.
