About This Event
The 100m Freestyle is one of the most prestigious events in women’s swimming. Two lengths of the pool at maximum speed rewards swimmers who combine a powerful start, efficient underwater kicks, and high stroke rate. The event is a cornerstone of any great sprint swimming nation’s programme.
Format
Heats and semifinals determine the 8 finalists. In the gold medal race, the swimmer completing 100 metres freestyle in the shortest time wins. Centre lanes are assigned to the fastest qualifiers.
