Asian Games 2026 Equestrian 2nd final event – 25 Sep

One of the ultimate medal events at the Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026 is the Equestrian Dressage Team Final & Individual Qualifier. The competition will be held in Asia’s most prestigious Membership hosted by the JRA Equestrian Park in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday, 25 September 2026, where the top Dressage riders and their horses from Asia are competing for team medals and for places in the individual membership Championship.

This ride is the second of the Dressage programme and very important as it doubles up the important roles of being both a dressage and a hack session. It determines the Dressage Team medals and is the last qualification round for anyone who wants to go on to take part in the Individual Freestyle Final on 26 September 2026.

About the Event

The Dressage Team Final & Individual Qualifier is a top-level equestrian Dressage competition at the Asian Games. It’s a showcase of the best rider/horse teams from all over Asia, who are assessed on technical precision, rhythm, balance, elegance, accuracy, and harmony.

There are two internationally recognised Dressage tests on the day of the competition (25 September):

  • Intermediate I (Small Tour) – A technical test which demonstrates the horse’s training, suppleness, accuracy and responsiveness through advanced movements.
  • Grand Prix Special (Big Tour) – Advanced team Dressage event with a higher level of movements that requires a high level of control, collection, and precision.

Competition Format

The Dressage Team Final is run in accordance with the rules set out by the FEI – which are the same as those used internationally.

  • Riders chosen to represent their National Olympic Committee (NOC) as teams.
  • In the rider category, there are two levels that riders compete: Intermediate I (Small Tour) and Grand Prix Special (Big Tour).
  • An international panel of judges will judge.
  • Judgement of Precision, Rhythm, suppleness, impulsion, balance, rider’s effectiveness and harmony between rider and horse is selected.
  • The overall team results are used to rank in medals.
  • Individual scores are also used to decide who goes to the Individual Freestyle Final.
