About This Event
The decathlon spans 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400m on day one; followed by 110mH, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m on day two. Points from each event are totalled for the final ranking.
Format
Two-day competition. Points are awarded using the IAAF scoring tables for each of the 10 events. The athlete with the most total points wins gold.
Nations to Watch
China, Japan, and South Korea are the strongest decathlon nations in Asia. The event is a test of comprehensive athleticism rather than one dominant physical gift.
