About This Event
Trap shooting requires athletes to shoot airborne clay targets launched from a hidden underground bunker at high speed and unpredictable angles. Athletes use a shotgun and must shatter the clay disc before it lands. The targets travel at 70+ km/h in varying directions, requiring fast reflexes, shot timing, and consistent gun mount. Each missed target counts as zero — there are no partial scores.
Format
125 targets in qualification determine the top 6 shooters who advance to a 50-target final. The final uses an elimination format where the lowest scorer after groups of targets is eliminated. A shoot-off resolves ties. The shooter who hits the most targets overall wins gold.
Nations to Watch
Qatar, Kuwait, and other Gulf nations that are Asian Olympic Council members have historically been strong in trap shooting. Japan, South Korea, and China also field competitive trap shooters. The event rewards hunting and clay shooting traditions that are culturally embedded in several participating nations.
