About This Event

The 200m Breaststroke is one of the most physically taxing events in swimming, requiring swimmers to maintain perfect breaststroke technique for four full lengths while managing fatigue. The event rewards swimmers with efficient mechanics — particularly a powerful and legal kick — as well as the aerobic capacity to sustain speed through the closing stages.

Format

Heats and semifinals select the 8 finalists. In the gold medal race, 200 metres of breaststroke is completed across four lengths. Legal technique is mandatory throughout, and consistent splits across all legs indicate top-quality race execution.

Nations to Watch

Japan has historically excelled in women’s 200m breaststroke at the Asian Games. China and South Korea are perennial medal contenders. Thailand and Singapore have also produced competitive women’s breaststroke swimmers who challenge for Asian Games podium positions.
