About This Event
The Women’s K1 200m is an all-out sprint in a closed-cockpit kayak over just 200 metres. Using a double-bladed paddle, athletes must generate maximum power from the very first stroke, with the race lasting under 45 seconds at elite level. Start reaction, underwater blade grip, and the ability to sprint without technical breakdown are the keys to victory.
Format
Heats, semifinals, and a final determine the gold medal winner. Paddlers race in separate lanes. The first woman to cross the finish line wins. Disqualification for lane infringement or false starts (on second offence) applies under CANOE sprint regulations.
Nations to Watch
South Korea and China have produced strong women sprint kayakers at the Asian Games. Kazakhstan fields competitive women’s paddlers across sprint distances. Japan and Chinese Taipei also regularly challenge for medals. The women’s sprint programme has grown significantly in depth across Asia.
